The Hands-On Workshop

You can’t learn to swim by reading about it.

Most training and workshops in this industry are verbal — someone talks, you listen, maybe you take notes. That’s theory. But in the world we work in, you don’t actually understand something until your hands are on it — the camera, the light, the script, the design. That’s where the name came from. And it’s not just about filming — hands-on applies to design, scripting, writing, any craft where talking about it will never replace doing it.

That idea became real in 2026, when we opened applications for a two-day, fully practical training for young Rwandan creatives. We expected interest. We didn’t expect 305 applications for 20 spots.

We funded it ourselves. No sponsors, no grants — just Dric Entertainment putting its resources where its purpose is.

We picked participants who were past the beginner stage but not yet professional — people ready to be pushed. Over two days, four industry trainers walked them through music video direction, lighting and gaffer work, action cinematography, and personal branding all on a live set, hands-on with cameras, not sitting in a classroom watching slides.

Some of the young creatives who came through that first workshop are now full-time members of our team — proof that this isn’t just training; it’s a real pathway into the industry.
